Shedeur Sanders Focuses on the Now: No Glances Backwards or Forward

Cleveland Browns
Shedeur Sanders is keeping his eyes on the present. He’s not worrying about 2026 or even the upcoming month. For now, all he’s focused on is Chicago.

Despite the Browns being officially out of the AFC playoff picture, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will be taking the lead in the remaining four games. This is a crucial opportunity for the rookie to showcase his abilities for the future, but Sanders remains focused on the task at hand when speaking to the media.

“Yeah, that’s a broad topic,” Sanders remarked, as noted by Pro Football Talk. “My concentration is solely on our next opponent, the Bears. I’m not really thinking beyond that. While I appreciate the chance, I’m not satisfied with my current position — we’re here to lead this team.”

Taking over midway through the Week 11 loss against the Ravens, Sanders has since completed 50 of 87 passes for 722 yards, with five touchdowns and two interceptions. With four games left and no playoff pressure, the Browns will evaluate if Sanders can position himself for consideration in the 2026 talks.

For Sanders, this is more than just a practice. It’s an opportunity to prove himself, though he refrains from labeling it as such.

Cleveland’s record stands at 3-10, with Sanders experiencing a 1-2 record during his starts. Noteworthy performances came during a loss against the struggling Titans and a win over the equally challenged Raiders. He faced challenges in the loss against the 49ers, while the upcoming game against the Bears presents yet another significant hurdle in the NFL.
