Former University of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore has agreed to a plea deal that potentially reduces the likelihood of him spending extensive time in jail.
According to ESPN, Moore reached this deal on Friday. He pleaded no contest to two new misdemeanor charges — malicious use of a telecommunications device in context of a domestic relationship and trespassing.
He did this in exchange for the dropping of a felony count and two separate misdemeanors. He no longer faces charges of felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking, and misdemeanor breaking and entering.
Michigan fired Moore on Dec. 10, 2025, after a staff member informed the university of an inappropriate relationship. According to prosecutors, the staffer ended the relationship with Moore on Dec. 8, but he allegedly continued texting and calling her.
Moore allegedly forced his way into the staffer’s apartment and threatened to harm himself after grabbing several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors.
He ultimately left the apartment after she threatened to call her lawyer and the police. Moore was released on a $25,000 bond. He received orders to wear a GPS tether, undergo mental health treatment, and avoid contact with the staffer.
Sentencing will take place on April 14 in Washtenaw County Court. Moore could face up to a year in jail, but this is no guarantee. His attorney, Ellen Michaels, requested that Moore’s GPS tether be removed. The judge denied this request at this time.
“As with any case our office handles, the plea agreement was reached following evaluation of the factual, evidentiary, and legal circumstances—and the overarching need for accountability and public safety,” the prosecution said in a statement, per Click on Detroit.
“It is our hope that this resolution will ensure accountability, and allow the victim an opportunity to heal and move forward.”
Moore, the offensive coordinator of the Wolverines in 2023, took over as head coach in 2024. He coached the team for two seasons while leading the team to a 17-8 record.
