It seems like every big name in entertainment is leaping at the opportunity to take part in Super Bowl commercials. Yet, Master P is not a member of this group.
The long-time hip-hop artist made it quite clear that he did not want to be in some random 30-second spot, even if it would add $10 million to his bank account.
“Somebody wanted me to do a Super Bowl commercial — I ain’t gonna say no names. It’s an insurance company,” Master P said, per TMZ. “But it’s big, and it’s like, ‘We want you to be a rapper. We want you to rap in a commercial.’
“I’m like, ‘I’m not rapping in a commercial,'” Master P continued. “Like, Kevin Hart is not doing stand up comedian for Chase on the commercial, so I’m like, ‘Sometimes, you gotta turn down…all money ain’t good money.'”
The longtime performer continued and said that he can rap, but he just doesn’t want people to stereotype him. He also wanted the youth to know that they don’t have to do deals when they are desperate, especially if it goes against their integrity.
While Master P didn’t specifically name any companies, it is fairly easy to whittle down the list due to the websites that track the commercials throughout the Big Game.
For example, insurance company State Farm turned to Danny McBride and Keegan-Michael Key for a music-themed commercial. The two actors channeled their inner rockstars while singing a song to the tune of Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer.Â
According to AdWeek, State Farm is the only insurance company to advertise during the Big Game. Geico, The General, Progressive, and Nationwide all stayed out of the lineup. This doesn’t fully confirm that State Farm reached out to Master P about rapping in a commercial, but it seems fairly likely.
