A sneaker company has filed a lawsuit against Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
This lawsuit, which also names business partner Noble 33, alleges trademark infringement. According to court records obtained by ESPN, the issue is the name of a steakhouse opened by the two NFL athletes, 1587 Prime.
1587 Sneakers is the company behind the lawsuit, and the company alleges that this steakhouse infringes upon the use of the identical number combination.
The suit seeks to have the restaurant stop using the name 1587 Prime. It also seeks to end the sale of clothing with the restaurant’s name on it.
According to the suit, 1587 Sneakers says that it first began selling shoes on April 13, 2023. Kelce and Mahomes first opened 1587 Prime on Sept. 17, 2025. The lawsuit alleges that 1587 Sneakers has first use of the numbers.
Another issue is the timing of the respective trademarks. 1587 Sneakers reportedly filed its application for the “1587” trademark in October 2025. Mahomes and Kelce reportedly filed an application for “1587 Prime” in December 2023.
These trademarks are in different categories, as expected. The “1587” application is in the clothing category. The “1587 Prime” application is in the bar and restaurant category. Although part of the suit takes issue with the fact that the steakhouse also sells clothing.
The lawsuit also alleges that “scores of consumers” have contacted the sneakers company thinking an affiliation with 1587 Prime existed.
“From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding,” 1587 Sneakers co-founder Adam King said in a written statement, per ESPN. “That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably.”
The lawsuit process will continue as the two NFL players prepare for a return to the Chiefs in 2026. Mahomes continues to recover from a serious knee injury that cut short his season after 14 games.
Kelce is healthy and back for more reps with the team. He just signed a three-year contract extension that will bring him back for his 14th season with the team.
